I am Donnies cousin... I remember him staying with us for several months in 1970 or 1971. He made few telephone calls when he was there but he received several ... He had told my dad that he had called the President and that he would be calling back and of course that is not something that happens on a daily basis. In the next day or two my dad answered the phone and was kinda shook up when he told Donnie he had a call. It was the President. He was such a big personality and loved without any reserves at all. Last I had got to see him was when his momma died. Too long ago. He will be missed. I so appreciate everybody sharing their precious memories of him with me.

Don always referred to me as Uncle Jerry. Wow, what an honor.

Tomorrow, Friday, we will lay Don to rest beside his mother. We will travel to Waynesville. Thanks to Sarah at Shuler's Funeral Home for giving us the guidance we needed to make Don's wishes come true. Thank you also for dressing Don like a prince. I will forever miss that big smile on earth but I will look forward to a big hug in Heaven. Mama I love you Don

Don, you and I had birthdays 2 days apart. I remember so many times thru the years at FBC, you would always ask me the week before your birthday to make you a new boutonniere to wear to church. Thru the years, I made many boutonnieres for you ... I can remember times when I would see you at church with 2 or 3 of them pinned to your suit jacket. You dearly loved Jesus and you wanted to make sure that everyone who came in contact with you knew Jesus! Now, you have a perfect body and you are perfectly healed, rejoicing in the presence of the Lord. You got to spend Easter with Him this year and I know that was a grand and glorious celebration! To all of your many friends at FBC, including me, our lives were richly blessed by having had you in our lives and you will be greatly missed, but I rejoice in knowing that your eartly suffering is over! Love and prayers to Lowell and Jan and their family for all the many years they cared for you. Rest in peace my friend and I will see you again one day when it is my turn to enter into His presence for all eternity.

Don was one of the first people to welcome us to First Baptist when Bill and I first joined in the 70's. He and Bill had a special friendship especially while we were at First Baptist before we went off to seminary. He never forgot us and always offered that big smile and greeting when we returned for a visit. Happy he is home with Jesus!

Dear FBC Family, There will be such a void in the family composition now, especially in the Special Friends class. Don was always running around the building & was a regular mainstay. Those who were touched by him will never be the same this side of heaven. But rejoice! We who know Jesus will see Don again! Amen & amen!
