476th TAC FTR SQDN USAF Very sorry to learn of George’s passing. I loved flying his wing in the really bad weather in Germany. He was a superb instrument pilot, smooth as silk. Also a good handball player as we won the Base doubles championship at George AFB. I regret not staying in touch after we both left the Air Force for the Airlines. Hope you are OK Martha. We will always cherish our warm and happy friendship with George and Martha. George and I shared many exciting flying stories, both being ‘brothers of the cloth’, former military fighter pilots. We flew the hottest machines in the world. It was a special treat and privilege for us to go flying together on a visit to San Diego. I fondly remember the time we were visiting Flat Rock and rendezvoused with him for breakfast at a local cafe where he could be found every morning after his daily hikes. There he was, holding court as usual, regaling admirers with sage pronouncements. I shouted across the room, “Are there any fighter pilots in here?” I triggered a conditioned response and as he began to rise, I shrugged my shoulders, turning away as he futilely waved, and said loudly, “Guess not!” Blue skies, George! With our sincerest condolences to Martha and the Wells Family, Howard and Carroll Young

My husband and I were so grateful to have met George through his beloved granddaughter (and third generation pilot) Joy. Though our time with him was short, he was full of life and laughter. My memory of him will be as a loving grandpa and great grandpa who loved to stay active and to share memories from his life. Our heart goes out to the family, Martha, Karen, and Sharon especially. Love you all!

Though my time with Cline was sadly limited, from sporadic gatherings to those cherished Wells Family reunions, I will always remember his warm and inviting demeanor; his sense of humor and wonderful laughter; his generous spirit; and his devotion to his dedicated family. He will be greatly missed by a lifetime of friends and relatives, far too broad and numerous to mention here. Thank you for your indelible mark on my life, Cline, and I only wish I could witness you soaring higher than even you ever dreamed. Enjoy the best of family reunions, and give my Dad all our love. Godspeed, Cline, and farewell.
