Walt was a shining example of what every law enforcement officer should aspire to. But he was so much more. There never was a truer friend. He stood by my brother, Jimmy Edney, in life and continued to remember and honor his memory after his passing. Walt could be counted on. He was special.

I WANT TO SAY HOW MUCH I LOVED MY NEPHEW WALTER. HE WAS A GOOD MAN AND SUCH A GOOD HUSBAND TO HIS WIFE AND MY NIECE JOANN. HE WAS AT SUCH A LOSS WHEN SHE PASSED AWAY, BUT HE WAS SUCH A STRONG MAN THAT HE WENT ON WITH HIS LIFE AND THEN HE WAS HIT BY A TRAGIC LOSS OF HIS LEG, BUT HE OVER CAME AND LEARNED TO WALK AGAIN AND GO BACK TO HIS PART TIME JOB WITH THE SHERIFF DEPT AND CONTINUED TO TEACH CLASSES FOR THEM.. THEN HE WAS HIT AGAIN AND THIS TIME THE LORD NEEDED HIM MORE THAN WE DID AND HE WAS CALLED HOME. NOW HE IS WITH HIS BELOVED JOANN AND FOR THAT I CAN TAKE THE LOSS. I APPRECIATE HAVING THE PRIVILIGE OF KNOWING THIS FINE YOUNG MAN AND HAVING HIM IN MY FAMILY. YOU WILL BE MISSED BY MANY.. ALL MY LOVE AUNT BUTCH (MOM)

I will never forget the summers of our childhood together at our grandparents, You, brother took me fishing and hunting a lot. We spent so much time at Crystal Lake, and Toledo Bend,We walked the railroad tracks for hours on hot summer days, took coffee to the sawmill to our pawpaw in a mason jar, We spent endless Sunday nights watching The Rifleman, and Red Skelton, and Bonanza, spent countless hours chasing fire flies catching them in a jar, we even experienced Santa Claus arriving one Chritmas Eve in a red pickup truck to our grandparents, he played his Beatles albums over and over, they were his treasures, We built forts out of bull cages and cardboard boxes, sat together many nights on the front porch eating ice cream, ,We shared happiness and sorrow. We cried to one another when our beloved spouses passed and shared the heart break when my pug died then later that year his pug died, We shared love. I will miss your beautiful smile, and laughter, I will miss you saying " I love you sister" It's not goodbye dear brother ,

Walt Harper was a bulldog of a man. Once he was on a case he never let go until it was solved. He always did what he thought was right even though he could suffer repercussions. I was privileged to work with Walt and under him for several years. He was honest and He would always stand by you under times of duress. He was a man you could trust. I appreciate your guidance and your friendship. See you on the other side friend.

Worked with Walt in Texas in the early 80's. Walt was a good man with a great sense of humor and a killer smile. Walt loved his family, both blood and blue, and was one of those officers that had your back - always. Rest easy, my brother...
