Valerie Jovita Smith Concha, 86, of Hendersonville, NC passed from this life on December 3rd of 2019. Valerie was born in New Orleans, La on February 15, 1933 to the late John and Gertrude Smith. Valerie is survived by her husband of 45 years, Fernando Concha; daughter Elizabeth “Lisa ” Leithman; and other relatives in New Orleans, LA.
Valerie was a Ballet dancer, teacher and choreographer who owned her own studio in New Orleans, La. Valerie started her own Ballet company, New Orleans Ballet Foundation and performed with that company throughout the state for many years. Valerie was a soloist with Ballet Russe de Monte Carlo, tapped with the Radio City Rockettes and danced on cruise ships with her husband and partner, Fernando Concha. Valerie was also a representative for an NGO with the United Nations for a number of years.
Valerie was a dynamic and compassionate person who loved and supported her family, friends, colleagues and students. Valerie also loved the many pets she had throughout the years including current dogs, Kris, Rascal and Tinkerbell.
A private service will be held at a later date.
Those who knew her will treasure the time spent in her company and will keep her memory and legacy alive in their hearts forever.

Thank you Ms. Valerie for the beautiful ballet classes and the Dances in the Babylon Mardi Gras Ball. I always have fond memories of those days and think about you very often. Rest in peace. Many blessings to your family. Love always, Judi
