Thomas “Tom” R. Shepard, 82, of Hendersonville, passed away peacefully on March 5, 2022. He was born in Ilion, NY to the late Roy and Flora Bard Shepard.
Tom was a loving husband and father who valued his family greatly. He spent many years in Mohawk, NY before making Hendersonville his home. After four years of service in the United States Air Force, he made his career at Univac and Remington Arms before retiring from Herkimer County BOCES. He was a devoted member of Immaculate Conception Catholic Church as well as the Apple Valley Train Club and the Transylvania Cruisers Car Club, where his love of HO scale trains and classic cars was shared with others. Tom will be missed by all those that knew and loved him.
Tom is survived by his wife of 60 years, Ann Durant Shepard of Hendersonville; his daughters, Deborah Shepard of San Diego, CA and Lynda Shepard-Marziale (Dave) of Chocowinity, NC; his grandchildren, Rebecca and Rachele Marziale; his sister, Beverly Garlock of Mohawk, NY; his nieces and nephews: Michael Durant (Kathy) of Ilion, NY; David Durant (Pam) of Honeoye Falls, NY: Chris Durant (Jaimie) of Ilion, NY; Colleen Cook (Gary) of Ilion, NY; Tim Murphy of Albany, NY; Cindy Murphy of Clarence, NY; Mike Murphy (Jill) of New England; and Kelly Herringshaw (Keith) of Lake Hartwell, SC; and his special beagle, Daisy.
In addition to his parents, Tom is predeceased by his brothers-in-law, Arly Cole, Ray Garlock, and Vincent Durant; his sisters-in-law Barbara Durant and Donna Durant; and a niece and several nephews.
A funeral mass will be held at Immaculate Conception Church on Thursday, March 10th at 10:00am. A committal service will be held and military honors performed at Blue Ridge Gardens of Memory on Friday, March 11th at 2:00pm.
