Gifts & Memorial Donations

Stephen Edward Woock, 67, of Mills River, NC, passed away on April 21, 2022 after a prolonged fight with cancer.

Steve was born on October 16, 1954 to Ray and Lois Woock in Louisville, KY.  After Steve graduated from Trinity High School in 1972, he went on to study biology at Eastern Kentucky University and completed his Masters of Limnology at the University of Missouri.

Steve met Teresa Walters at Eastern Kentucky University and were married in 1976.   Steve and Teresa went on to have 3 children, Jeremy, Lindsey, and Alicia.

Steve loved spending time outdoors.   He could be found in December marching through an eastern NC swamp, wet and cold, in search of the elusive “timberdoodle.”  He couldn’t have had a better dog than Clay, his English Setter, whom he trained and loved.   He enjoyed snowboarding with his family, it was the time when he was most relaxed.  You could always find Steve with a local craft beer and sandwich in the ski resort parking lot at lunch.  He found his true home hiking and living with his wife Teresa in the beautiful North Carolina mountains.

Steve was predeceased by his father Ray and his mother Lois. He is survived by his loving wife Teresa, son Jeremy and spouse Lauren and grandchildren James and Margaret, daughter Lindsey and spouse Niki and granddaughter Maxine, and daughter Alicia.  Steve cared deeply for his family and cherished his grandchildren.

Steve started his professional career at Carolina Power and Light, and spent over 30 years with Weyerhaeuser Company, retiring in early 2020.  His love for the outdoors gave him a nuanced and pragmatic dedication to environmental regulatory affairs.
