Sidney Ray Murphy “Buddy”, 66, went to be with the Lord on Tuesday, March 30, 2021. He designed and installed cabinets for forty years and started a successful business with his two sons that will carry on his love for the trade.
There are no words to describe how special of a person he was. Buddy could make anyone’s day by smiling, he had a way of lifting others just by being in his presence. He never had any worries, as his faith was so strong. His child-like personality and funny sense of humor will be missed greatly. Buddy was simply too good for this world. He has been reunited with his parents, Sidney and Faye, and other loved ones.
Left to cherish his memory are his children; two sons, Blake Murphy and wife Alexa, with children Gabee and Mia; Cameron “Mo” Murphy and wife JC; and a daughter, Lauren Murphy King and husband David, with children, Sydney and Sawyer. In addition to, the children’s mother, Tracy, who remained a dear friend. Buddy also leaves behind beloved his sisters Marian, Sylvia, and Cindy; and many more family and friends. Too many to name because everyone loved him.
Until we see you again, we promise to always keep our eyes on Heaven. Just as you did.

Blake, Mo and Lauren, Words can never express what Buddy meant to our family. He is the center of so many wonderful times and memories here in Georgia and there in North Carolina. There is no doubt there is laughter in Heaven right now because your Dad is there. He was a good man. We are always going to miss him terribly. Please know we will be praying for you all. We love you all so much!

My time spent with Buddy was limited. We spoke occasionally at birthday parties, and once he rescued Mo, JC and I after a particularly silly night out on the town (my idea, I’m sure). Despite our few interactions, I came to know Buddy in a very unique way—through the eyes of his daughter-in-law. JC and I were childhood best friends; her family was my family, and I still consider her parents to be my second mom and dad. I remember when she started dating Mo, and seemingly overnight she went from zero to in love. It was so sweet to witness the beginning of their relationship, but looking back what I find most compelling about that time is the instantaneous, yet profound connection she made with Buddy. For every swoon-worthy story she shared with me about Mo, she must have shared three about Buddy. “Did I tell you the story he told us out in the garage yesterday?...” “Let me tell you what he did for Mo’s birthday last week”... “The other day, Buddy did the funniest thing...” I feel so privileged to know a version of him, just through JC’s stories. And, I can’t think of a better testament to his life. How many people do you know that would take their son’s girlfriend, not knowing if she would be around for the long haul, and make her a part of their family? Share his home with her? Treat her like a daughter? Buddy truly was a special man, the kind of man I hope to meet again one day. Take heart in knowing “No one is truly dead until the ripples they cause in the world die away” —Terry Pratchett. And, I have a feeling that the ripples Buddy caused in this world are not going anywhere.

Blake, it has been many years from those days on the school bus. Sorry for your loss, but your dad’s legacy will live on through you. I lost my dad a day after you lost yours. Go figure only the Murphy’s and the Ball’s would know. Take care my friend and live on your dad’s legacy as it will be shown in everything you build in life.

While I did not have the pleasure of meeting Buddy, I can tell from his son Blake what type of father and friend he was to those who knew and loved him. Buddy’s love for life, his strong work ethic, congenial personality and helping his community will live on for years to come. I send my deepest condolences and sympathy to his family and friends. Buddy can now rest with the Lord as he continues to watch over all who loved him.

Our hearts are broken to learn of Buddy's passing. He was such a kind gentle spirit always, even as a kid. I will never forget him being one of the first to visit my brother, Steve and I when our dad passed away. Two years ago when Steve passed away, once again there was Buddy to share our grief. Buddy was truly one of a kind and he will surely be missed by our family as well as the many other lives he touched. I am bless to have called him my friend. I am sure that Steve was there to greet him at the Golden Gates and now they are fishing together on one of beautiful lakes of Heaven.
