June 23, 1944 - June 27, 2020

Shelby Jean Owenby, 76, of Fletcher, NC died after an extended illness early Saturday morning, June 27, 2020 at the Elizabeth House in Flat Rock, NC with her family by her side.

Mrs. Owenby was born in Hendersonville, NC on Friday, June 23, 1944 to the late Howard and Annie (McCraw) Dimsdale.  She was a homemaker, loving wife and mother, caring for family.  She enjoyed feeding and watching the birds along with working in her garden.

Mrs. Owenby leaves behind to cherish her memory her son, Gary A. Cox and his wife, Michelle of Fletcher, NC and her grandson, Christopher L. Cox of Asheville, NC.  Also surviving are three sisters, Betty Holbert and her husband, Sherman of Hendersonville, Carolyn Baldwin and her husband, Harold of Fletcher, and Shirley Henderson also of Hendersonville, NC.  She will be missed by several nieces and nephews.  In addition to her late parents, she is preceded in death by her beloved husband, David “Harold” Owenby who died in August of 1990.

Graveside services to celebrate Mrs. Owenby’s life will be two o’clock, Friday, July 3, 2020 at Forest Lawn Memorial Park in Hendersonville, NC with Rev. Matthew A. Metzger officiating.

Memorial contributions may be offered on behalf of Mrs. Owenby to Four Seasons Hospice –  Elizabeth House, 571 South Allen Road, Flat Rock, NC 28731 or to the charity of the donor’s choice.

Shelby Jean will be forever missed by her loving and devoted son, grandson, family members and many dear friends.
