Roger R. McClanahan

May 5, 1936 - February 1, 2021

On Monday, February 1, 2021, Roger Revel McClanahan, 84, went to sleep in the Lord.  He was born May 5, 1936 in Indianapolis, IN.  Roger was preceded in death by his parents, Revel A. and May Latta McClanahan; and children, Steven McClanahan, Randall McClanahan, Cheryl McClanahan and Teresa McClanahan Summers.

Roger was a construction contractor specializing in building custom homes until he retired in 1998.  In 1958 he moved to Phoenix, AZ where he continued to work in various types of construction.  As a hobby he bred and showed miniature horses.  One of his horses, Royal Image, was an eight time National Champion.  Roger was a member of the Arizona American Miniature Horse Association (AMHA) and for two years served as President of AMHA.  Another hobby was raising show quality Anatolian Shepherd dogs for 20 years.  He was a very talented harmonica player and played in The Heaven Bound Bluegrass Band in the SDA Church in Cottonwood, AZ for eight years.

Roger is survived by his wife of 22 years, Charlotte McClanahan, with whom he resided in Hendersonville for the past two years.  They are members of the Hendersonville SDA Church.  He is also survived by his daughter, Karen West of Brandon, MS and six grandchildren; and siblings, Roberta Crabtree, Karolyn Leonard and Jerry McClanahan, all of whom reside in Hendersonville, NC.  We will miss Roger’s loving heart, his good natured teasing, and his beautiful bass singing voice.

A Celebration of Life Service will be held Sunday, May 2, 2021 at 1pm in the Chapel of Forest Lawn Funeral Home.
