Rev. Oden “O.D.” Rhodes, 91, of Hendersonville, died of natural causes Wednesday, January 20, 2021 at his home.
A native and lifelong resident of Henderson County, he was the son of the late Buford and Dolly Rhodes. O.D. is also preceded in death by two sons, Stephen and Darren Rhodes; three brothers, Donald, Albert, and Willard; and three sisters, Annie Morrison, Dorothy Justus, and Wilsie Davis.
He worked for 38 years at Pardee Hospital as a physical therapist assistant. O.D. also was a pastor at several local churches for over 70 years. He was a member of Liberty Baptist Church and a member of the Log Cabin Gospel Bluegrass Band.
O.D. is survived by his loving wife of 71 years, Bernice Rhodes; two children, Stephen Rhodes and his wife, Kelly of Hendersonville and Lynda Garren and her husband, Rev. Robert Garren of Hendersonville; a granddaughter whom he loved dearly, Heather Westin and her husband Devon of Hendersonville; a step-grandson, Jacob Robinson; a great-granddaughter, Sophie Westin; a sister, Christeen Rhodes of Hendersonville; and numerous nieces and nephews.
A funeral service will be held at 2:00 PM on Saturday, January 23, 2021 at Ebenezer Baptist Church with Rev. Robert Garren officiating. Burial will follow in the church Cemetery. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at the church. Due to circumstances surrounding Covid-19 the family will be observing precautions during the service.
