Gifts & Memorial Donations

Raymond Lavern Burns a God Fearing Man of Flat Rock, North Carolina ended his life suddenly and unexpectedly on July 16th 2020 due to a hidden depression.  Raymond was born in Germfask, Michigan. He was the son of the late Elmer and Alice Burns.

Raymond was a long time member and deacon/servant at Pinecrest ARP Church where his many roles included maintenance,  cleaning, deacon duties, and his favorite, driving the bus.  Ray enjoyed picking up members for church, and especially loved the trips involving the youth. Everyone enjoyed Rays company.

Raymond also served as a Scout Master, not only for his sons, but for many boys, growing and training them into fine young men.  Ray’s love for the children was obvious, well received, and reciprocated.

After Serving in the U.S. Army,  Raymond held many jobs. These included GTE phone company,  he owned a variety of businesses,  was a skilled craftsman, accomplished contractor, and your Mr. Fix It Neighbor.

Raymond leaves behind a loving Wife of 30 years, Salley Burns (Miller); two sons, Raymond Jr. (Lori) and Steve (Cassie) Burns. He is also survived by sisters, Georganna Rodgers and Dee Trombley. His brothers Francis, Palmer, and Jerry preceded him in death. His surviving Grandchildren, Felicia and Rebecca Burns, Alex, Matthew and  Helana Burns, along with several nieces, nephews, and great- grandchildren, Wyatt and Abrah and Kaylin will miss him dearly. So many others have been favorably impacted by Ray, his contributions of service, and his rugged yet genuine personality.

The Family hopes and prays the death of our cherished Ray will cause someone to reach to a loved one, family member, clergy, or a crisis/suicide hotline in that moment of desperation.  Help save someone you love and reach out.

A memorial service will be held at 2 pm on Thursday, July 23, 2020 at Pinecrest Presbyterian Church in Flat Rock with Pastor Rhett Carson officiating. The family will receive friends following the service.
