Pauline Elizabeth Barnwell Wilkie, 91, of Fletcher, went home to be with our Lord on Monday, January 25, 2021.
She was the daughter of the late Lolie and Isabelle Rhodes Barnwell and a lifelong resident of Fletcher “her town”. After many years as a homemaker, she then worked 10 years at Eaton Corporation and retired. Pauline was a member of Fletcher First Baptist Church, loved her pastors and church family there and at Hoopers Creek Baptist Church. She was always upbeat, lending a helping hand whenever there was a need in her church or community.
In addition to her parents, she is preceded in death by her husband, Norman Wilkie, who passed away at the age of 48. He was truly the love of her life, all the way to the end. She is also preceded in death by two sisters, Betty Barnwell and Idabelle Stepp.
Pauline’s life was all about her family whom she loved dearly. She is remembered by her daughters, Vicki Rollins and her husband Garry and Debbie Owenby and her husband Eddie; a son, Gary Wilkie and his wife, Gale, all of Fletcher. She was also blessed with six grandchildren, Jerome Wilkie, Cristy Youngblood, Tara Hill, all of Fletcher, Brett Rollins of NY City, NY, Megan Moser of Charleston, SC, and Ryan Owenby of Raleigh, NC; and fourteen great-grandchildren. Pauline leaves behind one sister, Rosalee Hines of Fletcher along with many nieces, nephews, several brother and sisters-in-laws; and one especially dear friend of 81 years, Marie Lewis.
There will be no formal visitation for the protection of everyone due to the covid virus. A graveside service will be held at 2:00 PM on Friday, January 29, 2021 at Hoopers Creek Baptist Church Cemetery with Rev. Roy Waldroup and Rev. David Gentry officiating. We would like to ask each one who attends to please wear a mask and obtain safe social distancing for the safety of everyone. Mom would not want to endanger anyone with the covid virus. She dearly loved everyone and knew she was loved as well. Thank you for your understanding.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Fletcher First Baptist Church Backpack Ministry, 5 Cane Creek Road, Fletcher, NC 28732 or Four Seasons Foundation, 221 N. Main Street, Hendersonville, NC 28792.
The family would like to thank each one at Four Seasons Hospice and the Elizabeth House for their amazing, loving care for our Mom. We also would like to thank each one for all the prayers, cards, and calls to the family.
