Mildred M. Freese, one of God’s much loved and dedicated angels has completed her mission here and has been welcomed to her long-awaited heavenly home. Mildred, born in the Bronx and having reached 100 years old, slipped peacefully away in her Savior’s arms on Monday, December 7, 2020.
“Millie,” as she was fondly known, moved to Etowah from Michigan 43 years ago, with her husband, Marshall. They both spent the next couple of years gutting and rebuilding the home they purchased. Even after her husband’s death, she enjoyed welcoming many friends there, until she moved to Carolina Village where she happily resided since 1996. The move to the Village made it a lot more convenient for her to continue her extensive and dedicated volunteer work at her church, Mt. Pisgah Lutheran, which was her life. Millie’s faith in God has always been her strength. You could see it in her smiling face.
She is survived by two nieces in Greenville, TN, Joan McCarty and Linda Hamblin; several out-of-state but close relatives of her late husband; and a special friend and helper, Vickie Amato.
Millie is preceded in death by her husband, Marshall Freese; her parents, Fred and Minnie Grabowski; her cherished brother, Bill Grabowski and his wife, Eleanor “Rusty” Grabowski; her sister, Gertrude Dumeier and her husband Henry; her nephew, Henry Dumeier, Jr.; and a sister-in-law, Irene Grabowski.
A funeral service will be held at 1:00 PM on Friday, December 11, 2020 at Mt. Pisgah Lutheran Church with Rev. Jonathan Christensen officiating. Burial will follow at Shepherd Memorial Park. The family will receive friends prior to the service. Due to Covid-19, seating and visitation will be limited to 50 people.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be sent to Mt. Pisgah Lutheran Church, 2606 Chimney Rock Road, Hendersonville, NC 28792; Blue Ridge Humane Society, 88 Centipede Lane, Hendersonville, NC 28792; or Carolina Village Endowment Fund, 600 Carolina Village Road, Hendersonville, NC 28792.
