Maxine Ruff Buckner, 66, of Greer, SC, died Monday night, March 30, 2009 at the Spartanburg Hospital for Restorative Care in Spartanburg, SC after an extended illness.

Born in Buncombe County, she was the daughter of the late Bryson and Louise ìSallyî Ruff, and wife of the late Floyd E. Buckner.

She lived all of her life in Gerton before moving to South Carolina in 1997, and was a lifelong member of the Gerton Volunteer Fire Department. She was a homemaker and of the Baptist faith.

She is survived by her loving family, two daughters, Susan Wright of Whitney, SC, and Sarah Smith and husband, Tony, of Greer, SC; two stepdaughters, Linda Barbare and Debbie Buckner both of Pelzer, SC; four grandchildren, Perry and Ben Wright of Spartanburg, SC, and Lauren and Kayley Smith of Greer, SC; a brother, Joe Russell of Hendersonville; and a sister, Hazel Lyda of Gerton.

A graveside service will be held at 1 PM Friday, April 3, 2009 at Bearwallow Cemetery in Gerton, NC. The Reverends Bill Pate, Jr. and James H. Smith will officiate. The family will receive friends from 6:30 ñ 8 PM Thursday, April 2, 2009 at Shuler Funeral Home.
