Mary Spann Beck

January 15, 1928 - April 9, 2020

Mary Spann Beck, age 92 of Hendersonville passed away, on April 9, 2020, with her daughter, Martha, at her side at Heather Glenn Assisted Living in Arden, NC.

She was born to the late John and Marjo Justice Spann, on January 15, 1928 in Asheville, NC. In 1946 Mary graduated from Seabreeze High School in Daytona Beach. After graduation she returned to live in Arden.

In 1948 she married Quay Beck. They lived together in Henderson County for 41 years until his death in 1989. Mary is survived by three children, Quay Beck II and his wife Joan of Inman, SC, Thomas Beck, and his wife Annette of Fletcher and Martha Beck Walker and her husband Ken of Naples. She also leaves behind her longtime companion Jerry Ball. She was blessed with 7 grandchildren, 9 great-grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.

Throughout her life Mary loved to be involved in many activities. Years ago she was an active member of the Order of the Eastern Star, led GA’s at the First Baptist Church in Hendersonville and was a Girl Scout leader in Fletcher. In later life she became an avid bowler. She loved to travel and crossed the U.S. several times with Jerry and other friends. She was blessed with a wonderful sense of humor, was a lot of fun and was a good friend to have.

Mary loved her hobbies which included collecting things; old bottles, stamps, coins, bells and even cats. Throughout her life she always had “Fur Babies” to love. Her children and grandchildren “inherited” her love for cats.

Mary was immensely proud of her family and leaves many beautiful memories and wonderful stories. She missed her loved ones who had gone on before her and she looked forward to seeing her parents, sisters, brother, many old friends and the love of her life, Quay, again. This past Wednesday, early in the morning, she finally began that reunion.

Due to the current pandemic conditions, there are no immediate services are planned at this time. A memorial gathering will be held at a later date.

Memorial contributions in Mary’s memory may be made to Four Seasons Compassion for Life 571 South Allen Rd. Flat Rock, NC 28731
