Mary C. Jones, 95, of Henderson County, NC died peacefully after an extended illness, Thursday evening, April 30, 2020 at Elmcroft Senior Living in Hendersonville, NC.
Mrs. Jones was born on Tuesday, March 3, 1925 in Henderson County to the late Charles Spurgeon and Hassie (Garren) Cagle. She graduated from Hendersonville High School in 1942 and worked for several years at Justus Pharmacy. In 1945, as the former Mary P. Cagle she married her loving husband of 65 years, Mr. Spevines Rex, “SR.” Jones who preceded her in death on April 16, 2010. She and her late husband were members of Mud Creek Baptist Church in Hendersonville, NC for many years. As a young women she was very active at Grace Baptist Church in East Flat Rock, NC where she taught Sunday school. Mrs. Jones was devoted to her family and loved them deeply. She was always proud of her husband, Spevines “Spev” and beamed with pride when it came to anything to do with her two loving sons, Mike and Rex. For many years, her world was taking care of “her boys.” As the family grew, so did her acts of service. It gave her great joy to dote on her three grandchildren and later on her six great-grandchildren. Whatever need there may be, Mrs. Jones, lovingly known to her family as, “Momma,” “Grandmother” and “Gigi” would be quick to offer and eager to help. She was always affectionate and always telling her family. I Love You.” She loved to cook, play in the yard with the kids and even at an older age she could still do cartwheels better than most. When not taking care of her family, her main hobby was gardening. She had a green thumb like no other and her beautiful yard was a masterpiece. Until just a few years ago she could be found most days working with great pride and care in her yard. It gave her great joy and she loved to show anyone and everyone the beauty of it all.
She leaves behind to cherish her memory her two sons, Dr. Michael C. “Mike” Jones and his wife, Cecilia and Spevines “Rex” Jones, Jr. and his wife, Deitra both of Hendersonville, NC. Also surviving are her three grandchildren, Jennifer J. Egolf and her husband, Jay, Michael C. Jones, Jr. and Matthew M. ”Matt” Jones and his wife, Linden; Six great-grandchildren, Jace, Beck, Charlotte, William, Samuel and Timothy; a sister, Dottie Cagle Jones of Hendersonville and a brother-in-law, J.B. Maxwell also of Hendersonville and many nieces and nephews.

Mary will be greatly missed, a constant presence with her beautiful blue eyes, sweet smile and quick wit.
