Gifts & Memorial Donations

Marcia Lee Bird, 64, of Mills River, passed away at home on New Year’s Day. She was born in Detroit, MI to Barbara Dingman and the late Deane Dingman.

Prior to her residence in Mills River, she had also lived in Holland, MI, where she had earned an Art degree at Hope College, but as well spent time in Conway, NH and Mahwah, NJ. In her free time, she enjoyed numerous hobbies, such as cooking, gardening, and photography but also sewing and tailoring. She was of the Methodist faith. Marcia proudly made her living as tractor-trailer driver for Van Wingerden International, but she also drove for Bill Laughter trucking, which provided her with plenty of opportunities to see our beautiful country. For several years, Marcia had worked at Kelsey’s Restaurant.

Left to Cherish Marcia’s bright memory are her mother, Barbara Dingman; her sisters, Anne Hall of Horseshoe, NC, and Judy Dingman also of Mills River; two aunts, Doris Smith of Oakland, CA, and Marge Dingman of Northville, MI. She had also left behind ten cousins in various states as well numerous friends and co-workers at Van Wingerden International.
We will miss Marcia greatly and think of her often, especially with her dog, Red, who was her companion and protector on the road.

In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorial contributions can be made to any local animal shelter, or Fishes & Loaves Food Bank at the Etowah United Methodist Church, 110 Brickyard Rd, Etowah, NC 28729.

Due to the Covid-19 pandemic, the family intends to announce a memorial service at a later date.
