Lula Wells Miller of Hendersonville, North Carolina passed away on Monday, February 1, 2021 at the age of 103. She resided at Carolina Village in Hendersonville for the past fifteen years.
Lula was born in Rutherford County, North Carolina on February 16, 1917 to J.D. and Cleo Baxter Wells. She was a graduate of Western Carolina Teacher’s College (Western Carolina University). Following graduation, she taught in the Hendersonville City School System until her retirement. The lives of hundreds of 2nd graders, primarily at Bruce Drysdale Elementary, were influenced by her love of teaching.
She was a member of the First United Methodist Church of Hendersonville for over 75 years. Lula and her late husband, Ted, traveled the United States and Europe following retirement. Her hobbies and interests included spending time with family, reading, exercise, shopping, cooking and growing beautiful flowers.
Lula was preceded in death by her parents; J.D. and Cleo Baxter Wells; her husband, Theodore (Ted) Miller; brothers, Lawrence Wells, Robert Wells, and Frank Wells, Sr.; sister, Ruby Wells Upchurch.
Survivors are two sons, Dr. Michael Miller (Beth Davidson) of Phoenix, Arizona and Stephen Miller (Rita Ross) of Murrells Inlet, South Carolina; grandchildren, Carolina Miller Kenny (Brendan) of Brooklyn, New York, Jessica Miller Daugherty (Michael) of Awendaw, South Carolina, Bradley Miller of Phoenix, Arizona, Tonya B. Williams of Morganton, North Carolina, Cheryl B. Brackett (Chad) of Morganton, North Carolina; great-grandchildren, Cameron M. Daugherty of Awendaw, SC, Evelyn S. Kenny of Brooklyn, NY; seven other grandchildren and two great-great-grandchildren; brother, J.D.(Sonny) Wells, Jr. of Henrietta, NC; nephews, Frank Wells, Jr. (Loretta), Jimmy Wells (Sybil), Mark Upchurch (Angie), Jeff Miller (Tamara), Scott Miller (Robin), Dean Miller (Chris), Roy Miller, Bobby Miller, and Logan Miller; nieces, Dr. Anna W. Bloomer, Mary Ferguson (David), Ruth Wesley (Richard), Norma Miller, Vickie Osborne (Charles), Lynn Jackson, Windy Lenhart (Bill), Brenda Stepp (Ronnie) and Gail Miller.
The family extends their gratitude for the love and care provided by the Care Center of Carolina Village.
A celebration of life will be held at a later date due to Covid-19.
