Lewis Savannah Waters, 88, of Edneyville passed away on Friday, November 15, 2019 at the Elizabeth House. He was born March 1, 1931 in Henderson County, North Carolina to the late Cleo Water, Sr. and Lela Littlejohn Waters. He was also preceded in death by his wife of over 50 years, Lou Ann Robinson Waters; his daughter, Retha Alura Waters Cannon; his brothers, Clarence Waters and Clifford Waters; his sisters, Margaret Benson, Shamra Copeland and Emma Lou Waters.
Lewis was a farmer for over 80+ years and was well known, admired, and respected across Western North Carolina for his phenomenal harvesting skills. For 52 weeks a year, Monday through Saturday, from sunrise to sunset, he worked alongside his family to carry on a legacy passed down from his father of farming over 55+ acres of apples and vegetables. Sunday was always “rest day” spent with his family at “the house.”
A homegoing celebration will be held at 2 pm on Tuesday, November 19, 2019 at Blue Ridge Missionary Baptist Church in Edneyville with Reverend Richard Pea officiating. The body will lie in state from 1-2 pm at the church prior to the service and burial will follow the service at St. Pauls Community Cemetery in Edneyville.
Left to cherish his memories are his five children, Robin V. Waters of Edneyville, Lewis S. Waters, Jr. of Hendersonville, Franklin E. Waters (Rhonda) of Brevard, Pamela D. Waters of Edneyville and Sherry L. Waters of Hendersonville; one sister, Edith Howard; two Brothers, Cleo Waters, Jr. (Velma) of Edneyville and Leroy Waters (Angela) of Charlotte and a host of grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews.
Papaw always held our hand as we will hold him in our heart. He was always a strong country man on the outside but the most caring and loving man on the inside. The children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren will miss your voice, your smile, your smell, your hugs, your jokes, your singing and much more.
