LeRoy M. Brain, 83, of Hendersonville, died Sunday, September 18, at the Elizabeth House. A native of Clifton, NJ, he was a son of the late John and Stella McCreary Brain. He graduated from Springfield College in Springfield, MA and served in Army Intelligence during WW II. He worked for Burndy Corp. in Norwalk, CT, retiring as Director of Communications in 1986 after 23 years with the company. He was also a part-time writing instructor at Fairfield University in Fairfield, CT, a fencing instructor at the YMCA in Passaic, NJ, Vice President of the Easton Riding Club in Easton, CT, member of New York Professional Art League and the Arts League of Henderson County. A talented musician who played piano and flute, he had a great appreciation of classical artists. He moved to Hendersonville in 1987 after residing in Fairfield, CT for 26 years. He was a member of Hendersonville First Congregational Church.

Mr. Brain is survived by his wife of 54 years, Marilyn Danard Brain; daughter, Linda B. Hirst and her husband Brad of York, Maine; son, Kenneth J. Brain and his wife Renee of Hendersonville; three grandchildren, Nathan and Andrew Hirst of York, Maine and Hannah Brain of Hendersonville; two brothers, J. Robert Brain and his wife Doris of Milford, NJ and William F. Brain of Pleasant Hill, Calif. and many nieces and nephews.

A memorial service will be held 11:00 am Thursday, October 20, at Hendersonville First Congregational Church. Dr. E. Richard Weidler will officiate. A reception will be held in the church fellowship hall following the service. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to First Congregational Church, 1735 5th Ave. West, Hendersonville, NC 28739 or to Four Seasons Compassion for Life, 571 S. Allen Rd. Flat Rock, NC 28731.
