November 2, 1920 - July 11, 2018

Leland A. Getchell, 97, of Hendersonville, passed away Wednesday, July 11, 2018 at his home. A native of San Bernardino, CA, he was a son of the late Rowland Whitter and Mabel Yonkin Getchell. He was also preceded in death by his brother and sister. He had lived in California, Arizona, Alabama and Florida, prior to moving to Asheville in 1981. He had lived in Hendersonville since 2011. He served in the U.S. Army as a radio technician and received his certification as a master electrician from California Polytechnic University. He owned and operated an electrician business for many years was a member of the U.S. Power Squadrons. He also obtained his real estate license. He loved square dancing and was of the Baptist faith. Mr. Getchell is survived by his “adopted granddaughter”, Audrey Jones and by nieces and nephews. A memorial service will be held 2pm Thursday, July 26, 2018 in the chapel of Western Carolina State Veterans Cemetery. Interment in the cemetery will follow the service.
