Gifts & Memorial Donations

LaRue Lafayette Brown Laughter was born in Henderson County on August 3, 1943, to Velda and Garland Brown. LaRue completed the family being the youngest sibling to Brian and Beverly. She married Jerry Charles Laughter in 1962 and they have enjoyed each other’s company for 58 years. She went to East Henderson High School and later attended Western Carolina University. LaRue had two children, Kim and David, and after her children married, her family was extended by two more, Lynn and Beth.
When LaRue was feeling good, she enjoyed traveling with her mom and aunt, and being involved with her children’s activities. She taught Sunday School and worked in the nursery at church for many years. LaRue loved big family gatherings and loved reuniting with the friends and family she had not seen in a while. Her home was always a place where anyone was welcome.
LaRue had a wonderful group of friends, the kind that everyone wishes they could have. They went out to eat every Saturday night and it was not uncommon to need a table for 15-20 people. Those people were a big part of her family. I’ll bet when Mom got to Heaven, Janice was waiting on her with Preston and Donnie close by.
One of her greatest days was when her name changed from Mom to Little Gram. She had five grandchildren, Ashton, Trenton, Chelsie, Kye and Brynna and as they grew up, she was known as Little Gram to many of their friends, too. At Little Gram’s, you could always find a cold drink in the refrigerator and snacks in the corner cabinet to help yourself to.
LaRue asked that we let all those who were important to her know:
“I love you, Jerry, and all the wonderful years we had together. I love you, Kim and David, Lynn and Beth. I love you, Ashton, Trenton, Chelsie, Kye, Brynna and Heather. A special thanks to Mary for sticking by me.”
The family would like to thank all of those who sent many thoughts and prayers for LaRue during her time of illness.
The visitation will be held at 1:00pm Monday, March 9, 2020 with a service to follow at 2:00pm at Mount Moriah Baptist Church. The family will be receiving friends and family at the Laughter home on Sunday, March 8 from 2:00pm-6:00pm. In lieu of flowers, donations can be sent to Saint Jude Children’s Research Hospital.
