Kenneth Ray Gilbert, 75, of Hendersonville took his journey home on Thursday, September 27, 2018. He was the son of the late John Bunyon Gilbert and Jeanette Watson Gilbert. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his first wife, Delois Owensby Gilbert.
Ray was a native and lifelong resident of Henderson County. He was a softball spectator, bluegrass music lover, and a self-sacrificing man for his family and friends. A hobby farmer, Ray loved the outdoors and tractors. For over 50 years, he was a faithful employee on the property that is now Crooked Creek Golf Course. His genuine love and spirit will be greatly missed, and he will be warmly remembered as a loving father and proud grandfather.
Ray is survived by his second wife, Moiena Gilbert; daughter, Joetta Lewis and husband, Keith; son, Rodney Gilbert and wife, Becky; grandchildren, Shelby, Shane and his wife, Amie, Casey, Sydney and Dustin; great-granddaughter, Elliott; and many siblings, their spouses, and nieces and nephews.
A funeral will be held at 11 am Monday, October 1, 2018 at Beulah Baptist Church with Reverend Dewey Barnwell officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends from 5 – 7 PM Sunday at Shuler Funeral Home.
