Kenneth “Ken” Huff Campbell, 78, of Horse Shoe, NC passed away unexpectedly but peacefully on Friday, September 16, 2016. He was a son of the late Agnes Parrish and Walter Huff Campbell, Jr. He was also preceded in death by his wife, Martha Ann Campbell, and sister, Beth Livingston.
Ken retired from the US Army as a Colonel after 33 years of service. While in the Army, he lived in numerous places in the states, including Hawaii, as well as in Puerto Rico, Panama, Vietnam and Thailand. He earned a Bachelor’s degree in Business from Wofford College and a Master’s in Special Studies from George Washington University. Ken was a member of the Carolina Mountain Artists Guild and the owner of Function Plus. For years he enjoyed the craft show circuit traveling as far away as Florida and Virginia to show and sell his hand-crafted home accessories. He also enjoyed tennis, bowling, gardening, and singing in the church choir. Ken was an active member of Etowah United Methodist Church. At the time of his death he was chair of the Church Council. For many years, he led a very successful flea market for church missions. He was a faithful volunteer at Interfaith Assistance Ministry.
Ken was a strong, yet gentle soul, wonderful husband, devoted to his family.
Survivors include his wife, Connie Campbell; son, Scott Campbell (April) of Easley, SC; their three children, Brianna, Nicholas and Katherine; step-daughter, Lisa Lariviere (Sam) of Oak Ridge, TN; step-son, Stephen Grochmal (Carol) of Harrisburg, NC; five step-grandchildren; sister, Susan Thorsland (Oscar) of Liberty, SC; brother, Jerry Campbell (Jan) of Simpsonville, SC; brother-in-law Tim Livingston, of Easley, SC and numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and dear friends.
A memorial service will be held 3pm on Sunday, September 25, 2016 at Etowah United Methodist Church. The family will receive friends prior to the service beginning at 1:30pm.
