Judith Paul Prasil, 74, of Hendersonville passed away on Friday, April 2, 2021 at the Elizabeth Hospice House. She was born in Chicago, Illinois to the late Leon Alfred Paul and Edna Dorothy Thompson Paul. Left to cherish her memory are her husband of 40 years, Joseph Prasil and her sister, Susan Gail Paul Kerfoot and her husband Bruce Kerfoot, and their extended families.
Judy’s determination and dedication enabled her to master foreign languages. As an exchange student she spent a year during high school abroad in Bari and Rome, Italy. Since her classes were in Italian, she had to learn the language quickly. After high school, she attended Washington University in St. Louis where she majored in French. As part of her Masters program at Middlebury College, she spent a year at the Sorbonne in Paris and a year at the University of Strasburg in Strasburg, France. She developed a passionate love for Paris and would return to visit many times with her husband.
Judy and her husband were also ardent birders and they traveled the world eventually seeing over 2,500 different species.
As a member of Grace Lutheran Church, Judy was a beloved member of and the secretary for the Hospitality Committee for years, and she helped usher at church services. Judy and her husband also volunteered sorting books for the Friends of the Library Book Store.
During her career, Judy had a variety of jobs but her favorite was teaching English as a secondary language at Harper Community College. She had students from countries all over the world with tremendous differences in their knowledge of English, but she loved the challenge.
After retirement Judy maintained her fluency in both Italian and French by constantly reading books in both languages and also talking via SKYPE to friends in Italy and France. We will greatly miss the enthusiasm and dedication that she brought to any activity in which she became involved.
Judy’s Memorial Service will be at Grace Lutheran Church, Hendersonville, NC on Saturday, July 17th at 10 A.M.
