Joseph A. Kooker, Jr., 87 of Hendersonville, died Sunday, August 31, 2008 at Cardinal Care Center. Born in Fargo, North Dakota, he was a son of the late Joseph A. Kooker, Sr. and Viola McMann Kooker and had previously resided in Maryland. He was preceded in death by his wife of 53 years, Janet R. Kooker in June.

In addition, he was preceded in death by two sisters, Mary Elizabeth Wells and Phyllis Jean Wallin.

A US Navy veteran of WWII, he received his MBA and was employed by the US Government as a Certified Internal Auditor. He retired in 1972 after 30 years of service. He was a 32nd degree Mason, a member of the Shrine-Nile Temple in Seattle, Washington and active in the Oasis Shrine Temple of Hendersonville. He was a member of Grace Lutheran Church.

Surviving is a daughter Julie Ann Davis of Maryland; a son Grant E. Kooker of Florida; and grandchildren Ryan Danielle Davis, Franklin James Davis, Allison Elizabeth Davis all of Maryland and David Kooker and Vanessa Kooker of Florida and three nieces.

A memorial service will be held at 11:00am on Monday, September 15, 2008 at Grace Lutheran Church. The Reverends Gregory Williams and Kenneth Langsdorf will officiate. Military rites will be conduced by the Hedrick-Rhodes VFW Post #5206, Hubert M. Smith American Legion Post #77 and Chapter 14 of the DAV.

    To Joe Kooker's family. I got to know Janet and Joe at Cardiac Rehab. We went there for about 10 years and became good friend. They were a great couple. We had been in Florida so I didn't know either had been sick. You have my prayers and sympathy.
