John Robert Stroupe, 75, of Zirconia, NC passed away on Thursday, June 13, 2019 at Mission Hospital. He was a son of the late Myrtle and Harvey Stroupe and had served his country in the National Guard.
John retired as an accountant after 30 plus years of employment with the local General Electric, where many friendships were made and cultivated over the years. After his retirement, he was able to spend more time on the golf course, fulfilling his passion for the game. He loved it so much that not only did he play golf, but he also worked at both Crooked Creek Golf Course and Etowah Valley Golf Course. His smile and wonderful sense of humor will be sorely missed.
He is survived by his loving wife of 52 years, Judy Galloway Stroupe; son, Barry Stroupe and his wife, Melinda; daughter, Denise Gonce and her husband, Stony; sister, Alice Reagan of Myrtle Beach, SC; brother, Donald Stroupe of Wasilla, Alaska; his grandchildren, from whom much of his joy in life was derived and who were of utmost importance to him, Austin, Ryan, Julia, Vinny and Bella; his extended family of brothers-in-law, sisters-in-law, nieces, nephews and countless good friends whom he loved greatly.
A celebration of life will be held at 11 am on Saturday, June 22, 2019 at First United Methodist Church. The family will receive friends for one hour prior to the service at the church.
