Jean Rose Wolf Miller, age 98 of Hendersonville NC, formerly a long-term resident of Coral
Gables FL, passed away peacefully on August 30, 2020.
Jean was born on May 13, 1922 in Chicago in a loving home with her parents Anna and Mannie
(Bene) Wolf, and siblings Arthur and Shirley. Her older brother Arthur died in Okinawa fighting
for our country and was awarded a Bronze Star and Purple Heart which were proudly displayed
in Jean’s homes.
Jean married the love of her life, Melvin Miller on December 26, 1943. The couple settled in
Valparaiso Indiana in 1947, where they raised their three children; Arthur, Lynda and Marcia.
Jean was a dedicated wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and great friend. She
worked with Melvin at the family grocery store and department store in Valparaiso, and loved
getting to know her patrons and helping them shop. She was very proud of her family and was
excited to become a Grandmother to her Grandchildren, who affectionately called her “Ma,
Grams or Grammy.
She loved holidays and family get-togethers; any chance to spend time with
her family was so important to her. She would spend hours cooking and preparing for her
company. She loved entertaining and using her fine china. She loved baking her chocolate
cakes and cooking her delicious apple sauce with her grandkids and great grandkids.
Jean was known for her warmth, wit, her intellect, and for her great sense of humor.
Jean’s signature nail polish color was cherry red. She was also known to adore and spoil her babies;
including her 4 legged ones. She always had the answers to everyone’s questions and will be
missed by all that knew and loved her. She lit the candles each Shabbat and loved to say the
blessings surrounded by her family.
Jean was the beloved wife of the late Melvin Miller, devoted mother of Arthur, spouse
(Mary),Lynda and Marcia. Her grandchildren; Scot, Amber, Ashley and Shanan were the “apples
of her eye”, as were her “found treasures”, their spouses, Dusty (Scot), Dustin (Amber), and
Blake (Shanan). Her great-grandchildren Andrew (Scot and Dusty),Marly, Bowen, Dax, (Amber
and Dustin), Knox and Ashton (Shanan and Blake) were lucky to spend quality time learning
from their “GG” and visiting with her often. They loved hearing her stories and sharing
Thanksgiving at her table.
Jean was also very special to Hector Castillo and his wonderful wife Luz of Etowah, N.C.
She was loved by all who knew her, including her sweet puppy Bingo, who never left her side.
