Gifts & Memorial Donations

Janet Butts Quillen Cornell passed away on January 6, 2015 after a lengthy illness.

Born on July 1, 1936 to Harold Butts and Pauline Oliver, Jan grew up on the beaches and farmlands of Boca Raton, FL with her brother, Tommy Butts. Jan also had two half sisters, Barbara and Susie Butts, from her fatherís marriage to Ruby Merritt.

After graduation from Seacrest High School in Delray Beach, FL in 1954, Jan married David Quillen. Jan and David had six children, a son, Kyle, and five daughters, Kerry, Keely, Kirby, Paula, and Jana Lee. While raising her children, Jan lived in Boca Raton and Louisville, KY. In 1976, Jan married Charles Cornell of Lighthouse Point, FL, and added three more daughters to her family, Wendy, Cathy, and Lori.

Jan and Chuck moved to Bearwallow Mountain in Hendersonville, NC, in 1981, where they have lived with a house full of canine and feline companions and frequent visits from their 9 children, 6 sons-in-law, 17 grandchildren, and 2 great-grandchildren. A fierce defender of anything or anyone she loved, Jan was rarely seen without a smile, a young child at her side, and at least one dog or cat in tow.

Always a wonderful wife, mother, sister, daughter, and friend, Jan gave far more than she received. Words cannot express how much we, her family and friends, will miss her, but she will live on in our hearts and memories, and we look forward to the day we can be with her again.

A memorial service and celebration of Janís life will be held at 1:00 pm on Saturday, January 31st, in the chapel of Forest Lawn Funeral Home in Hendersonville.

Memorial gifts in Janís honor can be made to Blue Ridge Humane Society or Four Seasons Hospice in Hendersonville.

I am so sorry for your loss....a wonderful lady has left the world a bit dimmer, but heaven is brighter, I'm sure! I know Jan will stop at the Rainbow Bridge and will have many loved dogs to accompany her into eternity.
