James Robert “Jimmy” Coggins, 74, of Tuxedo, NC passed away Tuesday, July 17, 2018 at Pardee Hospital in Hendersonville.
A native and lifelong resident of Henderson County, he was a son of the late Alfred and Callie Osteen Coggins. He was also preceded in death by sisters, Ellen Jean Morrison and Bobbie Ann Hipps; and brothers, Arliss “Pete” Coggins and Douglas Coggins.
Jimmy graduated from East Henderson High School and AB Tech in Applied Science, Drafting. After serving as a Sergeant E4 in the US Air Force, he was employed by Westinghouse/Eaton Corp. for 38 years as a pipe fitter, retiring in 2015 after 38 years’ service. He was a member of Tuxedo First Baptist Church.

As a young man, Jimmy enjoyed playing baseball and coached the Green River Little League Baseball Team for eight years. He also enjoyed camping and trout fishing with his brother and brothers-in-law at what is now Dupont State Forest. An avid Carolina Tarheels and Carolina Panthers fan, he also enjoyed bowling, competing in national competitions. He served his community by raising money for the Big Brothers/Big Sisters Organization.
Jimmy is survived by his wife of fifteen years, Venus Requierme Coggins; sisters, Loretta Moody (Don), and Sheilah Brown (John); sister-in-law, Joyce Coggins; brother-in-law, Willis P. Hipps; and numerous nieces, nephews and extended family and friends.
A funeral service will be held at 3 PM Sunday, July 22, 2018 at Tuxedo First Baptist Church with the Reverend Mikell Bennett and his nephew, Reverend Scott Moody, officiating. Burial with Military Honors will follow in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends Sunday from 1:15 – 2:45 PM at the church.
