James Edward Surrett, Jr.

James “Jamie” Surrett, Jr., 54, of Flat Rock went home to be with the Lord on Wednesday, June 19, 2019 at the Elizabeth House following a courageous battle with cancer. A native of Buncombe County and lifelong resident of Western North Carolina, he had resided on Henderson County for the past 9 years. Jamie was a son of the late James Sr. and Trudy Surrett and was also preceded in death by his sister, Darlene.

A graduate of Erwin High School, Jamie had been employed as a press operator at Wilsonart for the past 34 years and was of the Baptist faith. He was an avid sports fan, especially when it came to Carolina Tar Heels basketball and Florida Gators football. Jamie also enjoyed NASCAR racing, having cheered on Dale Earnhardt and Dale Earnhardt, Jr. for many years. He could often be found cheering on his high school football team on Friday nights. Spending time with the love of his life, Fernell, brought Jamie the most joy out of life.

He is survived by his loving and devoted wife of 21 years, Fernell and his loyal Shih Tzu, Beth.
