Holmes D. “Mac” McLendon, Jr., 97, of Asheville, NC, passed away on Monday, February 15, 2021, at the North Carolina State Veterans Home.
Mac was born on May 3, 1923 in Goshen, NY to the late Holmes D. McLendon, Sr. and the late Irene Griebel McLendon. Mac is also preceded in death by his wife of 58 years, Marianna Demaree, originally from Madison, IN.
Mac earned his BS in Economics from the Wharton School of Business at the University of Pennsylvania, where he was a member of Alpha Chi Rho fraternity. He was the founder and owner of MRC Industries, a computer firm, in Park Ridge, IL. Mac served in the US Army during World War II where he was awarded the American Theater Ribbon and the World War II Victory Ribbon. Mac was an active member of St. Mary’s Episcopal Church in Park Ridge, IL, as well as the Park Ridge Senior Center before moving to Asheville in 2012. He was also a Master Mason for over 75 years as well as a proud Shriner.
Mac was the devoted father of Nancy Jensen (Mark) of Herndon, VA and Dr. Susan West (Jeremiah) of Asheville, NC; loving grandfather of Andrew Peery (Sierra), Michael Anderson (Juliana), Matthew Anderson, Daniel Jensen (Barbara), Brandon Jensen, and Matthew Jensen (Abigail Cucolo); great-grandfather of Cecilia, Carolina, and Lucas Jensen, brother-in-law of William L. Demaree (Betty) of Madison, IN, and Judy Clark of Ft. Myers, FL . Mac is also survived by numerous nieces and nephews, and was well loved by all who knew him.
Friends will be received at Shuler Funeral Home, 125 Orr’s Camp Rd., Hendersonville, NC on Saturday, May 8, 2021 for a memorial visitation at 10 AM with a memorial service to follow at 11 AM. The inurnment will take place at Western Carolina State Veterans Cemetery in Black Mountain, NC.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in Mac’s memory to the North Carolina State Veterans Home, 62 Lake Eden Rd, Black Mountain, NC 28711.
