Helen Nixon Beck, 82, of Mills River, NC died unexpectedly early Thursday morning, February 27, 2020 in Durham, NC.
Mrs. Beck was born in Surry County, NC on Tuesday, November 30, 1937 to the late Roy Arthur and Lela (Watson) Nixon.
On April 20, 1963, as the former Helen L. Nixon in Winston Salem, NC she married her loving husband of 48 years, Mr. Donald E. Beck who died October 29, 2011. After graduating from Pilot Mountain High School she entered Draughon’s Business College with an Associate’s Degree. For most of her life she was a homemaker and exceptional loving wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother. She was a faithful member of Mills River United Methodist Church for over 50 years where she was active in many of the Ladies Methodist Groups.
She leaves behind to cherish her memory her two devoted sons, Michael A. Beck of Chicago, IL and his former wife, Ellen A. Squires of Jacksonville, FL and Jonathan E. Beck of Mills River, NC. Also surviving are her two granddaughters, Sally H. Lanning and her husband, Joshua, Sr. and Lucy C. Beck both of Jacksonville, FL and two great-grandsons, Joshua, Jr. and Graham; a sister, Holly Wright of Bristol, VA and two brothers, Russell Nixon of Hamptonville, NC and Ray Nixon of Fancy Gap, VA.
In addition to her beloved husband, Donald and her parents she is preceded in death by her sister, Hazel Brown.
Funeral services to celebrate Mrs. Beck’s life will be, three o’clock Sunday afternoon, March 8, 2020 at Mills River United Methodist Church, 137 Old Turn Pike Road, Mills River, NC with Rev. Rennie Salata officiating. The family will receive guests one hour prior to the service in the church sanctuary. Burial will follow the old church graveyard.
Memorial contributions may be offered on behalf of Mrs. Beck to the Mills River Life Enrichment Center, 137 Old Turn Pike Road, Mills River, NC 28759, or to the charity of the donor’s choice.
Helen will be forever missed by her loving and devoted sons, family and many dear friends. May God grant her eternal peace.
