George Welby Greene, 66, passed away unexpectedly Saturday, March 27, 2021. He was born in Long Island, New York to the late John and Marie Greene.
George had made a successful life for himself. He had met the love of his life, Gabriella, while they were in high school. Nearly a decade ago, George and Gabriella made a motorcycle trip through the Blue Ridge Mountains, instantly falling in love with Western North Carolina. Before long they had decided to make Hendersonville their home.
George had a Master’s degree from Rochester Institute of Technology; he was a proud owner of Greene Software. In his free time, George was an avid tennis player and a Honda Goldwing enthusiast.
Despite all of George’s amazing accomplishments made throughout his sixty-six years, nothing compared to his family, who were his absolute pride and joy, especially his beloved grandchildren.
Left to cherish George’s memory are his wife, Gabriella; daughters, Stefany and Michael Brown with their children, Aidan and Brinley of Saint Petersburg, Florida; Allison and John Farmer with their children, Katherine and Benjamin of New Braunfels, Texas; sisters, Barbara, Marilyn and Shayla and families; and brothers, Jack, Jim and Tom and families.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorial contributions may be made to St Jude’s Children’s Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN, 38105 or to a local Food bank of the donor’s choice.
A Celebration of Life will be held at 2pm on Sunday, June 13, 2021, at the Barn at Tall Oaks, 28 Bradley Road, Hendersonville, North Carolina, 28791.

Death leaves a heartache no one can heal, LOVE leaves memories no one can steal. Gaby, my deepest sympathy to you and your girls and family. My thoughts and prayers of peace are with you.

Dear Gabriella, honestly can not even express my sorrow for you and your family. Friday was talking with Mommy, and like always, praising you and George, how good you are to her. Now,it is hard to believe, that George left such a void in Your life, in Your girls life, in your Mom's life-anybody who knew him. Memories, yes, but memories can never be and will never be enough to lessen the pain. Love you, feel for you, pray for you. Not really Sisters, but Sis, here anytime I can make your pain any less painful. Love you.

So so sorry to see this and to realize that our great George has moved on. I really enjoyed George's wit, intelligence, humor, care for his family and real-world experiences. I had really hoped to spend more time diving with him and just hanging out and talking with him about Abraham and living pono life :). I'm so sorry that George is gone. We toasted several to him on the lanai Saturday night, so many fun times there with you two. Our love and aloha to Stef and Allison and all the grandkids as well.

I am so very truly sorry…Tom has been despondent … Although I only had the pleasure of having met George a handful of times… He had an innate inherited knack for getting you to say things you didn’t even know you needed to get out… I guess that’s why he was mom‘s “number one son… “ He was a pillar of knowledge without being full of himself, humble yet snarky at the same time… It’s sort of like he could see in you something that you didn’t know you had and managed to get it out of you somehow… He was pretty cool… I know he saved the day at our wedding… Tom was pretty nervous and George’s presence was ever so grounding… I will be forever grateful for that memory. My deepest most heartfelt condolences to you, Stefany, Allison and your beautiful grandchildren

We never imagined there wouldn’t be ONE MORE MAUI trip where we would share Mark’s famous mai tais on our lanai, grill food (you would always bring!!) and hang out for hours just enjoying each other’s company.... and sooooo many laughs.... I know Mark will miss all the good conversations while I would massage Gab. And all the diving fun and sharing underwater camera knowledge ... my heart breaks for the girls and grandkids whom will miss his sage advice ... so freely given. George was there for me in a big way when I was going through a really rough patch in my twenties ... he talked to me for hours and I attribute those caring talks to saving my life... many years later i thanked him ... he had done so much... but he didn’t remember. That’s the kind of heart he had - gave it all with no strings attached. We will miss you George!!!

Dear Gabriella, Stefany, and Allison, I’m thinking of you all so much right now and can hardly believe the news. For my entire life, there were always the four of you, the Greenes, that felt more like extended family than just friends. I can’t believe there are now only 3 of the original 4. Gabriella, you and George built such a beautiful life and a wonderful family that has only grown larger and more wonderful with time. I know you all brought him great pride and joy and filled his life with love. Sending so many hugs to you three during this difficult time.

George and Gabi were our best neighbors in Farmington for 10 years! Lucky for us to have formed such a close relationship, we were more like family. Stephanie and Allison adored their father because he would always listen and present great ideas. My husband Toby and George would go scuba diving together and had so much fun. George, you will surely be missed!

Dear Gabriella, anybody who spent any time with you, knows how much you loved George and how much George loved you. With the exception of your childhood you were always friends, partners and husband and wife. Together you brought up two strong, smart and beautiful girls and you always, always were each other’s strongest supporters in all the storms of life. I can’t believe that I will never have another „ fight“ with George about politics- just to be welcomed by him with open arms at my next visit. It is so sad for me to know that you, my friend, will now have to walk alone through these difficult times. Please trust that George will be with you, that your beautiful family will support you and that your many friends will be there for you. I‘m sorry to be so far away right now, but you are in my thoughts and prayers always. Alan and the girls send their love also.

Gaby: No words can express our deepest sympathies, and no words can live up to the man/husband/father/grandfather George truly was. Gaby always recounted how they met and got married at a young age. They started early with their blessed married lives and had two great daughters and then their family grew with sons in law and then beautiful grandchildren. Wish we could be near you to help you during this difficult time, but please know you are in our thoughts and prayers. Our hearts go out to you and your family. Frank and Debbie Greco

George was a very accommodating host every time we visited Gaby whether it was when they lived in Victor or in Hendersonville. Such a gentleman, helping with luggage, grilling, making us feel welcome, sharing his wit and dry sense of humor. I will miss George, and my heart breaks for the love of his life and for Stefany and Allison and Lee and the grandkids. Such a devastating loss of a very good man.
