Gifts & Memorial Donations

George LaMott Hoskin, Jr., 74, passed away peacefully at his home in Bat Cave. He was a son of the late George L. Hoskin, Sr. and Vivian M. Townley Hoskin. In addition to his parents, he was also preceded in death by his wife, Candace Joy Stewart Hoskin.

A native of Pennsylvania, he moved with his family to south Florida at the age of 14. A Seacrest High School graduate, he went on to attend the University of Florida and the University of Southern Mississippi. After graduating from USM he met and married, Candy, the love of his life, who unfortunately passed away at a very young age. His devotion to her memory and his children was so great, he never remarried. George moved his family to Bat Cave, NC in November 1982 where he lived out the rest of his life. He was active in his children’s activities, coaching youth soccer teams, leading church junior high and high school youth groups, ferrying kids to football games, basketball games, cheerleading, and band practices, boy scout meetings, and much, much more. He could not have been a more devoted father.

An active member of the community, George served the Bat Cave Volunteer Fire Department for over 30 years. George was also very involved with the Episcopal Church and, more recently, became a member of St. Andrews Anglican Church.

Survivors include his two daughters, Joy H. Brewer and husband, Steve, of Raleigh, NC, Candace Julie Hoskin of VA; son, George L. Hoskin III of FL; his two precious granddaughters, Kelly & Sophie; brother, Robert Hoskin; sister-in-law, Liz Richter Hoskin; and nephews Robert and Barry Hoskin.

A memorial service will be held at 3pm on Sunday, October 18, 2015 at Bat Cave Baptist Church. The family will receive friends at the church an hour prior to the service.

Memorials may be made to St. Andrew’s Anglican Church, P.O. Box 388, Edneyville, NC 28727 or to The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society, P.O. Box 4072, Pittsfield, MA 01202.
