Fred E. Bane, 71, of Hendersonville, NC, died Wednesday, December 3, 2008, at his home.

A native and lifelong resident of Henderson County, he was the son of the late Robert Franklin Bane, Sr. and Carrie Lillian Lindsey Bane.

He served in the US Navy. Before retiring this year, he was a self-employed carpenter and a member of the Hendersonville Homebuilders Association. He was a member of Ebenezer Baptist Church.

He is survived by his loving wife of 49 years, Mildred Jones Bane of Hendersonville; a son, Dennis Bane and wife, Cindy, of Hendersonville; two daughters, Teresa Heatherly of Hendersonville, and Debra Hill and husband, Jimmy, of Landrum, SC; five grandchildren, Cassondra Heatherly, Karla Coggins, Crystal Bane, Trey Hill, and Abbey Hill; three great-grandchildren, Tanner Coggins, Kaitlin Coggins, and Jesse Heatherly; two sisters, Faye Bradburn of Hendersonville, and Judy Morgan of Travelers Rest, SC; and two brothers, R.F. Bane, Jr. and Ronnie Bane, both of Hendersonville.

A funeral service will be held at 2 PM Sunday, December 7, 2008, in the Kirby Memorial Chapel of Shuler Funeral Home. The Reverends Harold McKinnish and Mike Smith will officiate. Burial will follow at Forest Lawn Memorial Park. The family will receive friends from 6:30 ñ 8:30 PM Saturday, December 6, at Shuler Funeral Home. At other times, the family will be at home.
