Franziska ‘Frances’ Burrell, 86, of Hendersonville passed away on Sunday, June 3, 2018. She was born Franziska Büchner in Munich, Germany on September 21st, 1931. The eldest of two girls, her sister Helga and husband Hans still live in the home where they were raised, as it survived the Allied bombings during WWII. After being asked to attend a dance by one of her girlfriends, she met her husband, Hendersonville native and US Army soldier Fred Burrell, while he was deployed to Munich. They began dating and were married on January 2nd, 1956. During their 61 years together they traveled the world, survived two deployments to the Vietnam war, raised three sons, and retired to their beloved Hendersonville.
She loved dancing, exercising, playing cards and board games with family and friends, cooking, flower gardening, bird feeding, cheering (loudly) for her three boys in sports, and spending time with her eight grandchildren.
Frances will be remembered as a strong, energetic, hard-working yet fun-loving wife, mother and grandmother with an infectious laugh and smile, who never met a stranger, did not like to ask for help but was always ready to help whenever needed.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Fred Burrell. She is survived by her sister Helga and her husband, Hans; her three sons, Ron and his wife, Nina, Mike and his wife, Krystn, Steve and his wife, Kim; and her grandchildren Joshua, Amanda, Tyler, John-Michael, Dillan, Justin, Eric, and Walker.
Friends and family are invited to attend a Celebration of Life service at 2PM Friday, June 8th, 2018 in the Shuler Funeral Home Chapel. Reverend Sherrill Moore will officiate the service. She will be laid to rest at a private service beside her husband at the Western Carolina State Cemetery in Black Mountain, NC.
