Frank Martella, 88, of Hendersonville died peacefully at home on Wednesday the 21st, October 2020, three months after losing his beloved wife Rosalie. Born in Santa Barbara, California in 1932, he excelled in school, becoming the first member of his family to attend college. After graduating, he joined the Army and was posted to Germany where he used the opportunity to travel widely. After leaving the Army, he became a teacher in the Dept. of Defense Dependents School System (DODDS) and taught Industrial Arts (AKA Shop Class) in Spain and the UK. It was in Spain where he met and married Rosalie, and where they met their lifelong friends the Orolins.
Frank is survived by his two daughters, Heidi Martella Doswell who lives with her husband near London in the UK, and Melanie Martella who resides temporarily in Hendersonville. His two grandsons, Bradley Paul Doswell and Louie Edward Doswell, both reside in the UK.
“What’s the project? How can I help”? This simple phrase encapsulates his life and attitude—his passion for learning and teaching, his enthusiasm for making and mending all manner of things, combined with his love of family and friends—and his bone-deep impulse to do right, and be kind. He is and will be sadly missed.
