Eugene Edward Garren, 83, of Mills River went home to be with the Lord on Saturday, March 28, 2020 at his residence. A native and lifelong resident of Henderson County, he was a son of the late Gaden P. and Alva Wilson Garren. He was also preceded in death by his brother, Preston Garren.
Eugene was a proud veteran of the U.S. Army and had retired from Cranston Printworks following over 40 years of employment with them. He was of the Baptist faith and he loved his family dearly. He cherished every moment he was able to spend with them. Eugene loved being outside in the sunshine, having a paintbrush in one hand and a piece of chocolate in the other. He enjoyed sitting on the porch smoking a cigarette and drinking a Mountain Dew.
He is survived by his loving wife of over 60 years, Verna Garren; son, Eddie Garren (Julie); daughter, Christine Garren (Eric Capell); grandchildren, Matthew, Tyler and Michael Garren; great-grandchildren, Tanner, Adriana, Colton and Bella; siblings, Ercelle, Clyde, Betty, Harold, Edna, Kenneth, Sheila and Danny as well as numerous nieces and nephews.

Bobby and I have talked about how hard it is to lose a Dad. So our hearts go out to you Christine and your family during this time. It is so hard not to pick up the phone or run by to ask a question. That is the hole that is left in our hearts and lives. Please know that we are praying for each of you. Our love, Bob and Deb

To the Garren Family, so sorry to hear of Eugene passing. Worked with him many years at Cranston. Always had a smile on his face. Was a wonderful employee and friend. He wanted to work the night shift so he and Warren Cunnungham (Wormy )could paint houses during the day. Dont know when he slept. We always knew him as ( Ground Hog ) After the tears have dried and the goodbyes have been said, all we have to hold onto are the happy memories that we shared with Eugene. This is what keeps them alive in our hearts and in our minds, and they will continue to live in our hearts. At this difficult time in your life, we pray that God will grant you the serenity and peace that you need to get through this. Stay strong and know that you are remembered in our thoughts and prayers.
