Erwin Eugene "Gene" Carman

Erwin Eugene “Gene” Carman, 101, of Hendersonville passed away on Sunday, October 13, 2019 at Hendersonville Health and Rehab after a period of declining health. He was born in Massillon, OH to the late Charles I. and Esther Hoover Carman, and is preceded in death by his wife, Catherine Mary Barnes Carman.

Gene served in the Army Air Corps in World War II. He lived in Chicago, IL, San Antonio, TX, Kerrville, TX, and Knoxville, TN, before moving to Hendersonville, NC 22 years ago. During his long life he worked at Chevrolet Motor Co., Mooney Aircraft, and as a Real Estate broker. He enjoyed making stained glass art, volunteering at the Literacy Council, and continuing to learn, studying Spanish at Blue Ridge Community College.

Family and friends will remember Gene for his warm smile, hard-core work ethic, his volunteer spirit, and his unwavering faith in God.

Left to cherish his memory are his children, Robert Carman of Bayfield, WI, Randall Carman of Knoxville, TN, and Carrie Carman of Hendersonville, NC; grandchildren, Cherlyn Williams, Aaron Carman (Amy), Nathan Carman (Jenny), Jenny Carman, and Annetta Carman; great-grandchildren, Ryan, Sandra, Kelly, Ava, Reagan, and Claire; and his beloved church family at Trinity Presbyterian Church in Hendersonville.

A memorial service with military honors will be held on Saturday, November 2, 2019 at 2pm in the Trinity Presbyterian Church Sanctuary. Rev. Mark Stanley will officiate, and a reception will follow the service. Memorial contributions may be made in Gene’s honor to the Guatemala Scholarship Fund at Trinity Presbyterian Church.
