Gifts & Memorial Donations

Ernest Carl “Jr.” Burgess, Jr., 80, of Hendersonville, NC, went to be with the Lord April 8, 2022, in Kannapolis, NC.

Born and raised in Hendersonville, Jr was the son of the late Ernest Carl Burgess and Minnie Taylor Burgess.; he is also reunited in Heaven with his sisters Jeannette Singleton and Billie McGuinn and brothers Walter, Ambers and Marion Burgess. After graduating from Edneyville Highschool Jr volunteered to serve in the US Navy.  Once retired from P.T. Greene Construction, Jr had more time to spend outdoors fishing and hunting. Jr also enjoyed woodworking; he was a known craftsman.

The most loving, understanding and giving man and the best father anyone could ever have.  The toughest man I ever knew, who instilled in those around him the meaning of hard work, integrity, loyalty, honesty and dedication.  His calloused hands created works of beauty that will be admired and revered forever.  He shared his love and friendship to many and left a legacy of memories to cherish and enlighten the lives of those who knew him.  As he ascends on his journey to his cabin in the sky where the fish are plenty, let it be known that he was not only a good man, but a GREAT MAN and our hero.

Left to cherish Jr’s memory are his beloved wife of sixty-years Pat Lusk Burgess; daughter Tamela Burgess of Charleston, SC; sons Tony Burgess and his wife Mellissa and Cole Burgess both of Kannapolis, NC; loving grandchildren Davien Burgess and his wife Carrie of Plantation, FL, and Devin Smith of Charleston, SC; step-grandchildren Jaxson Kee and Destin Kee; and great-grandchildren Aniya Burgess, Kayla Burgess and Tianna Burgess. Jr also leaves behind sisters Sandra Walker, Neysa Gail Green and her husband Marshall; and brothers Hubert Burgess and his wife Gail and Ronnie Burgess and his wife Nancy; and nearly eighty nieces and nephews. In addition, Jr’s dear friends Buddy Lusk, Jack Levine, Ronnie Levine, Cris Colleson, Willie Brown and Kathy Kanupp will miss him dearly.

A visitation will be held from 5pm to 7pm on Saturday, April 16th, 2021 at the Kirby Memorial Chapel of Shuler Funeral Home, Hendersonville, NC.
