Edmund Joseph Osterman, Sr., 89, of Hendersonville, NC died with his wife by his side after an extended illness early Sunday morning, May 10, 2020 at the Elizabeth House in Flat Rock, NC.

Mr. Osterman was born in Oceana County, MI on Monday, October 20, 1930 to the late Joseph Simon and Anne Margaret (Videtich) Osterman. On August 28, 1976 in Corpus Christi, Texas he married his loving wife of 43 years, the former Charlotte Anne Deupree, who survives.

Mr. Osterman grew up in Hesperia, MI and graduated with a degree in mechanical engineering from the University of Detroit. He worked for DuPont for 30 years in Martinsburg, WV, Ely, MN, Corpus Christi, TX and Wilmington, DE, before retiring in 1988 to Hendersonville, NC. His work took him to the ocean at Wilmington, NC, the airport at Ketchikan, Alaska, the mountains of Colorado, and mines all over the country. After his retirement to Hendersonville, NC he worked at Coats Thread Company and Flat Rock Middle School. He loved solving mechanical problems, reading, traveling, and feeding the birds. He was always ready to help those who needed it. He was a faithful and devoted member of Grace Lutheran Church in Hendersonville NC for 32 years.

In addition to his wife he leaves behind to cherish his memory his children from his first marriage, Joanne Kranich (Bob), Michael Osterman, Matthew Osterman (Teresa) and Suzi Turner (Jimmy Burnett); children from his second marriage, Robert Carter (Stacie), Edmund Osterman, Jr. (Ann Beaty) and Anne Osterman (Michael Matos). Also surviving are his grandchildren, Michael Osterman, Emily Cooper, Kim Stout, Matthew Elsea, Caleb Osterman, Sarah Osterman, Virginia Osterman, Jennifer Bartine, Jessica Keith, Brandon Turner, Devon Turner, Alex Carter, Austin Carter, and Charlotte Rose Matos, and 11 great-grandchildren; sisters, Janis Polus and Dolores Miller and husband, Pat; sister-in-law, Barbara Winter Akers; brother-in-law, Robert Deupree and his wife, Janet; In addition to his parents he is preceded in death by an infant daughter, Catherine, a son, Mark, grandson Nathan, sister Josephine, and his brothers-in-law, Walt Polus and Herrell Akers.

At the family’s request a private family graveside service will be held at Grace Lutheran Church in Hendersonville, NC with Rev. Kenneth Langsdorf.

Memorial contributions may be offered on behalf of Mr. Osterman to Grace Lutheran Church, 1245 6th. Avenue West, Hendersonville, NC 28791, or to the Elizabeth House, 581 South Allen Road, Flat Rock, NC 28731.

Ed will be forever missed by his loving and devoted wife, family members and many close friends. May God grant him eternal rest.
