Earl Graves Jackson, age 98, died on December 1, 2018, at Carolina Village Medical Center. He was preceded in death by his wife of 74 years, Marjorie. He leaves behind three children, sons Lynn and Christopher and daughter, Irene Jackson-Schon, and several grandchildren.
The son of Frank and Corinne Jackson, and brother to the late Elwin Jackson, Earl was graduated from A.I.C in Springfield, MA, and Clark University in Worcester, MA, with BS and MS degrees. He then joined the Navy during WWII, serving in the Atlantic and Pacific on destroyer escorts. Upon returning home, he acquired a PhD in chemistry from Rutgers University.
He worked at several companies in Massachusetts, including G.E., and was able to take early retirement. He and his wife moved to Cape Cod before deciding to relocate to N. Carolina, in 1990.
While in NC, Earl volunteered regularly, maintaining mountain trails in the Pisgah Forest, driving for FISH, and for 15 years was an intake worker with IAM. He and his wife continued to enjoy foreign travel, classical music and reading until the last.
Earl’s ashes will join those of his parents and wife at the Massachusetts National Cemetery in Bourne.
The family wishes to thank all the hospice, medical and staff workers for the loving care he and his wife received during their contented years at Carolina Village. They would appreciate any donations be sent to a charity that feeds the hungry.
