Dr. Don Garland, 84, of Hendersonville went home to be with the Lord on Thursday, January 2, 2019 at the Elizabeth House following a brief illness. A native of Minnesota, he was a son of the late Donald and Anne Merrill Garland. He had resided in Henderson County for the past 20 years.
Dr. Garland received his master’s degree from the University of Michigan and his M.D. from the University of Rochester. He was the associate medical director of Pontiac Motor Division from 1965-1974, the Minneapolis area medical director for Honeywell Corporation from 1974-1983, had a private practice from 1983-1994 and then was with All Saints Healthcare System from 1994-2001. After retiring from full-time work, he spent many years doing Locum Tenens work, including a time at West Point Military Academy.
He loved model railroading and had built many systems over the years. He was an avid reader, golfer and classical music enthusiast. Dr. Garland was a wonderful husband, parent, brother, brother-in-law and uncle who will be sorely missed by all.
He is survived by his loving wife of 38 years, Pat; children, Lorraine Anne Garland, Tracy Henderson Garland (Jay), Karen Elizabeth Garland (Justin), Steven Eric Olsson and Mark Eliot Olsson; brother, Robert F. Garland (Karen); nephew, Mikael S. Garland (Kathy J.); grand-nieces, Ava and Elena; grand-nephew, Carter; sisters-in-law, Kristin (Einar) Johnson and Sonja Martin; brothers-in-law, Stephen Brase (Bonnie), Paul Brase and David Brase (Betsy)
A memorial service will be held at 2pm on January 31, 2020 Hendersonville Presbyterian Church, at the corner of grove and 64.
