Doris Marie Thompson (Nana), 73, of Hendersonville went home to be with the Lord on Friday, July 17, 2020. She was born on February 7,1947 to the late Martin Thompson and Lora Mae Skipper-Thompson; Doris was preceded in death by her husband William Jennings Sexton; daughter Ellen Marie Sexton Goode and grandson Christopher Goode.
Nana attended East Henderson High School; she was known for her employment with Seneca Foods, Spinning Wheel and Norm’s Mini Mart. Nana was of the Baptist faith. She loved to play the piano, spend time with her grandbabies, especially watching them play together as she sat on the porch. Nana’s Cherry YumYum recipe was famous amongst her friends and family. Anyone who knew Nana was aware of her deep love for frogs.
Left to cherish Nana’s memory is her daughter, Sandra Sexton and son, Larry Sexton both of which from Hendersonville; grandchildren, Brittany Johnson and her husband Taylor of Forest City, and Liam Alford of Hendersonville; sister Gerldene McMinn and husband Howard McMinn; and many nieces and nephews. Her great grandchildren, Kylie, Elijah, Jaxyn and Zander were the loves of her life. Nana was a friend to many; everyone absolutely loved Nana.
The family will have a visitation Monday, July 27th, 2020, receiving friends and family from 2pm to 4pm at the Shuler Funeral Home Chapel.
A memorial service will be held at 11am Saturday, February 6, 2021 at Clear Creek Holiness Baptist Church, 668 N Clear Creek Road Hendersonville, NC, with Rev. Brandon Jackson officiating.
