David “PUTT” Putnam went to his home in Heaven to be with the Lord on  Wednesday, February 12, 2020. He was the son of Herb and Sarah Putnam of Hendersonville. He is preceded in death by his paternal grandparents, Eliot and Alice Putnam, his maternal grandparents, Marshall and Hazel Cantrell, and an aunt, Joann Cantrell.

David was born on August 10th, 1968 and was a lifelong resident of Henderson County. He attended and graduated from Faith Christian Day School where he played basketball and soccer. After high school, David attended Liberty University for two years before returning home and taking Basic Law Enforcement Training at A.B.Tech. After BLET, David was hired as a police officer in the city of Tryon, NC. David became Tryon’s first DARE officer. Later he was hired as a deputy in Henderson County. During his 15 years as a deputy, he did what he loved as a DARE officer and a School Resource Officer. He loved the time he got to spend with “his kids at school.” After leaving the Sheriff’s Office, he went to work at the North Carolina Department of Transportation where he stayed his last 8 years. During his life David served the Lord and worshiped at several churches. For the last 15 years, David attended Mud Creek Baptist Church where he drove the church bus, was part of the Carpenter’s Hands ministry, sang in the choir, and served on the security team. David also served as a counselor at Camp GLOW for the last several years.

Along with his parents, David is survived by a son, Dalton Putnam and a daughter and son-in-law, Autumn and Matt Smith. He also has a brother and sister-in-law, Tim and Pam Putnam, and a sister, Tammy Putnam. He also has an aunt, an uncle, and several nieces, nephews and cousins.

I still remember sitting in car while David's parents, Tim, & Tammy gave my sister and I a ride to his dad's church. When one of us dozed the other would nudge the other one. Then when I had my daughter, he was one of her DARE officers, & David was her favorite. Bless everyone & condolences to David's wife, children, Herb & Sarah, Tim, & Tammy and all of David's friends and family.
