Clarence “Clancy” E. Griggs, age 88 of Pineville passed away on Saturday, September 2, 2017 at Wellmore in Tega Cay, SC.
Born in Asheville, NC, he was a son of the late Elmer and Margaret Griggs. He proudly served in the United States Navy and was a member of Hendersonville First Baptist Church. He retired after more than 30 years as a Dental Technician for the Veterans Administration in Charleston, SC. Some of his favorite past times were playing golf, square dancing and traveling, especially cruising. He was a kind, gentle man and was a devoted husband, father and grandfather who enjoyed spending time with his family and friends.
Along with his parents, he is preceded in death by his wife of 60 years, Dorothy ” Dottie” N. Griggs; sisters, Margaret Williams and Mabel Scott and his brother, Dr. James Griggs.
He leaves behind his daughter, Pat Fail (Chris) of Laurinburg, NC; sons, Mike Griggs (Diane) of Ft. Mill and Jim Griggs (Cindy) of Clover; grandchildren, Drew Fail, Christan Fail, Courtney Fail, Michael Griggs, Ashley Griggs and Matt Griggs and a host of family and friends.
A memorial service will be held 11am on Friday, September 8, 2017 in the Kirby Chapel of Shuler Funeral Home with military honors. The family will receive friends an hour prior to the service. Burial will follow at 3pm in the Western Carolina State Veterans Cemetery.
