Charles "Pride" Smith

October 10, 1942 - July 16, 2020

Mr. Charles Smith, age 77, of Hendersonville, North Carolina, passed away at home on Thursday, July 16, 2020.  Born in Reckford District, Clarendon, Jamaica on October 10, 1942, he was the son of the late Ida and Uriah Smith; he is also preceded in death by son, Delroy Smith. Charlie worked in farming for over forty years harvesting apples, after migrating to the U.S. in the late 1970’s.

A loving father, grandfather, son and brother, Charles was known for his calm spirit and soothing demeanor.  He would light up whatever room he entered and was loved by all those around him.  He enjoyed socializing with friends in his spare time and was passionate about cooking.  Charles was a wonderful cook and understood the psychological and physical benefits of a home-cooked meal. He was meticulous, organized and maintained the cleanest home you have ever seen.

Left to cherish in his memories are his two children: Marva Smith of Florida and Glen Smith of New York; five sisters: Vera Smith-Arthur, Marcia Smith, Norma Smith-Johnson, Denise Smith-Aaron, and Cecilyn Smith; three brothers: Cleveland, Leroy and George Smith; twenty-five grandchildren including Nicola and Lisa Larmond and Alwayne Muir of Florida; six great-grandchildren; a special loving friend, Cynthia Cromer and a loving extended family Camellia Shipman, Nikki Shipman, Tangia Davis, Ivan Shipman, Wayne Nix, Jeff and Deal Nix, Roschelle Nix Ward, Johnny Ward, Travis Nix and Stacy Nix and several beloved friends.

There will be a viewing at Shuler Funeral Home, Hendersonville, NC, on July 18, 2020 between 4pm to 6pm and time of remembrance to follow at a beloved friend’s home.
