Charles “Charlie” Thompson, 79, of Hendersonville went home to be with the Lord on Friday, March 12, 2021 at the Elizabeth House following a courageous battle with cancer. A native and lifelong resident of North Carolina, he and his wife retired to Hendersonville 30 years ago. He was a son of the late Grover and Hattie Thompson. He was also preceded in death by his granddaughter, Danielle Nichole Thompson, and sister, Joan Trotti.
Charlie was of the Christian faith and had graduated from North Carolina State University. He retired from IBM following 30 years of service as an executive. He was a member of Hendersonville Country Club, where he enjoyed playing golf with a regular group of fine men. Charlie enjoyed woodworking and was a master craftsman at making furniture. He loved spending time with his family.
Charlie is survived by his loving wife of 63 years, Linda Thompson; son, Gregory Mark Thompson; daughter, Gwendolyn Leigh Thompson; grandchildren, Ashley Marie Smith, Jessica Lindsey, Leighann Michelle Thompson, and Robert Mark Thompson; nine great-grandchildren; nieces, Beth Schneir and Meg Richardson; nephew, Michael Trotti.
A private family memorial service will be held at a later date.
