Charles Allen Reed, 74, of Mills River passed away at home on August 25, 2015. He was a son of the late Charles William Reed and Doris Allen Reed of Columbia, SC.

Mr. Reed proudly served in the US Navy after attending Columbia High School in South Carolina. Upon his honorable discharge from the Navy, he began his own business, Omega Designs, specializing in design for the tool and die industry. After many years as a private business owner, he was offered an engineering position with Mattel Industries in El Segundo, CA. He remained as a senior engineer with Mattel until he and his wife, Mary, returned to the East Coast and settled in Asheville. Once settled, he opened his business, Forest Designs, which he operated until his passing. He was a respected business partner and friend. He will be missed.

Mr. Reed is survived by his wife, Mary Drummonds Reed of Mills River, NC; his son, Charles Allen Reed, Jr. of West Columbia, SC; his daughter, Tina Reed Hutto of Gaston, SC; his brother, Tom Reed (Teresa) of Anderson SC; his sister Marie Reed Finch of Irmo, SC; and his beloved grandchildren, Chase and Brook Reed of Mills River and Jennifer and Jamie Hutto, and great-granddaughter, Autumn Hutto, all of Gaston, SC. Among those who loved and respected him are his numerous nieces, nephews and cousins in North Carolina, Tennessee and South Carolina.

A memorial service will be held at 2 pm Saturday, August 29, 2015 in the Chapel of Forest Lawn Funeral Home. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at the funeral home and a reception will follow the service.
